Intuition, Horses, and Healing: A Conversation with Equine Craniosacral Pioneer Maureen Rogers

Intuition – How We Know What We Know

How do we know if it is on target or a signal from the underground mine of unresolved subconscious fears and longings?

I asked Maureen Rogers — equine craniosacral pioneer, gifted healer, and longtime friend — one of her greatest gifts. She responded "intuition," among others.

When I work with horses, I trust my hands and energetic healing experience to know the next right place to move. This might be because horses remember everything that's happened to them. Part of the healing process for me is to feel and see their images with my inner sight so that the echoing canyon of their great being can resound in my field.

But then comes the real question: how does the horse respond to my next move? How do I know it's the right place, the right pressure? This is a way of listening that opens a new kind of contact with each horse.

This is how horses tell me their stories.

This way of listening couples with what I call "intuition." It is almost free of expectation, past experience, codes of conduct, and is a shimmering luminescent almost fragile wing that briefly flutters a whisper near my heart, throat, and behind my eyes.

Through a flight of images like a deck of cards being set in motion toppling one upon the other, the horse shows me that it has been hit on the head, rammed by the horn of a bull, or whipped while being tied to a post. We ask "where does it hurt?" Like a mother to a babe, and through tears, the wee voice says "here" and points to the tummy.

As a psychotherapist working with clients, it is important to note that my Master's degree is in Spiritual Psychology. Part of the training is to develop a sensitivity to what the client would like to say, but does not. To listen for the story she is afraid to tell, so she will tell a story she thinks you want to hear. Or he will unknowingly mask his terrors with physical illness or problems, to disguise the fear and desperation buried in his body mind.

I listen for the wee voice. So does Maureen. And if you think your intuition fails you, listen to the blurred soft wing of knowledge that is hovering with grace near your heart.

About Maureen Rogers

Maureen Rogers is the global pioneer of Equine Craniosacral Therapy. With decades of experience, she has taken her work around the world, creating the most extensive program of study internationally that exists today. Her journey began when a severe snowboarding accident led her to craniosacral therapy — and then to the horses. She applied what she learned to a foal named Willy, and a whole new field was born.

Maureen has studied with Hugh Milne and other master teachers, and her work is a labor of love that continues to transform the lives of horses and their humans.

In This Episode of the Pan de Dios Podcast

Maureen sat down with me for a conversation about intuition, healing, and the moment that pivoted her life. She tells the story of her snowboarding accident, the healing that followed, and the quiet voice that said "do something with it." We talk about craniosacral therapy, the wisdom of horses, and the power of trusting what you know.

My Own Journey with Equine Craniosacral Therapy

With over 50 years of experience in the healing arts, I offer distinct modalities — EMDR, Craniosacral Therapy, Equine Craniosacral Therapy and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, and Therapeutic Tango — each designed to support your body, mind, and spirit on its journey toward wholeness.

Equine Craniosacral Therapy applies the principles of Craniosacral Therapy to horses, helping correct imbalances by attuning oneself to their cerebrospinal fluid flow. This gentle, hands-on approach works with the body's cerebrospinal fluid flow and deep internal rhythms, encouraging self-healing from within. It reaches the deeper layers of the nervous system, promoting long-lasting balance and well-being.

Horses often show noticeable improvements in movement, relaxation, and overall well-being after just one or two sessions. I've seen it happen again and again — a horse walks in stiff and guarded, and walks out free. The difference is remarkable. It's a conversation with the nervous system itself, a dialogue of trust and release.
